Laura Luykx

Laura Luykx founded GreatDoor Life Coaching in 2006 because she wanted others to have an opportunity to encounter the same life-changing experience that she had as a client of life coaching. Previously an employee of the federal government in Washington, D.C., Laura was looking for a job that better fit her interests and aptitudes. She began working with a life coach and although she was exploring other options, quickly realized that coaching was the career she had been searching for. However, at first she barely admitted this even to herself because she couldn’t see a way to make it happen. How could the parent of a young child undertake a training program on the other coast, afford an office and find clients to get her practice underway? Once Laura stopped focusing on the reasons it wouldn’t work and embraced her dream, the pieces began to fall into place.

Laura trained in Sonoma, California with Dave Ellis in the Falling Awake model. This style of coaching is very non-directive and is intended to empower clients to find their own solutions and make their own decisions. In the process the client begins to discover what will make them happy today and in the long range future and to trust their own inner-knowing. One of the underlying principles is that as you fill yourself to overflowing you are in the best position to give yourself to others. Laura has also studied Reiki, Acutonics and Emotional Stress Defusion and uses these practices as a powerful adjunct to coaching. In 2010 she became certified by the International Coach Federation. Because life coaching is such a powerful tool, not only for solving problems, but for getting clear about what’s next, Laura works with a coach of her own.

Laura’s passion is assisting people to begin to uncover their authentic self and to build a life that reflects those insights. She also helps people to translate their empowering belief systems into everyday practice (Spiritual Integration). Uncovering her own authentic self has led Laura to pursue a path where the ephemeral and the practical merge to achieve balance, peace and joy. She has lived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina since 1999 with her husband of 18 years and her 11 year old son. Laura is an avid reader, tai chi student and cook. She loves animals and has two cats and a dog.

Since 2007 Laura Luykx has donated coaching to One to One ~ Women Coaching Women. This national non-profit organization offers 6 months of pro bono coaching to women emerging from challenging circumstances who cannot otherwise afford coaching.
